Plot: Deputy Sheriff Joe Deacon joins detective Jim Baxter in an investigation to track down a serial killer who's targeting girls in Los Angeles.

Directed by John Lee Hancock, The Little Things stars three Academy award winners: Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto.

For the fact that Hancock actually wrote the script back in 1993, the film seems pretty well outdated in its plot as well as the presentation. The first half of the film although manages to get us engaged with the plot while expecting to witness the unexpected which unexpectedly never happens. Even the cat and mouse game between cops and killer, which usually is the key force in films of this genre, is almost missing. The way Hancock presents this film, 2+ hours of runtime feels too much.

Denzel Washington tries to pull this film as much as he can but after some time his character becomes repetitive and boring. Although he's fabulous in the first half of the film. I personally wanted to feel his grief but unfortunately, we didn't get that chance because the film didn't present his past in that way. Talking about Rami Malek and Jared Leto, both do not do justice to their respective character, giving almost the same expressions throughout the film. Except for the three main characters, the story hardly focuses on someone else. Why include so many characters when you hardly going to use them?

Writer-director Hancock himself tries very hard to keep it original, intriguing, and mysterious but as a viewer, I can't help myself from not comparing it with Fischer's Se7en and a little bit with Zodiac too. I wish Hancock could have used his actors differently. I was rooting for the background stories of victims or at least how the murders took place but the film never tries to explore that area.

In the end, The Little Things is an extremely generic film with an outdated script. It even fails to deliver a respectable ending which it kept on building from the very first scene. It adds nothing new to the genre.
