Synopsis: Shashi (Sridevi) is a perfect Indian homemaker and self-made entrepreneur who makes and sells laddoos (a sweet). Although she's a proud mother, her family members continuously mock her due to her lack of command of English.

Sridevi made her comeback to the big screen with writer-director Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish. A story of a middle-class homemaker, a mother, and a wife. Shashi is just like any other Indian homemaker who feels proud to be a mother and loves her family. When she travels to America for her niece's wedding, she sees an ad on a bus saying "Learn English in 4 weeks". From here starts her fun-filled journey of learning English without telling any of the family members about it. But this film is not about English speaking or learning it's so much more.

English Class Members in English Vinglish

Writer-director Gauri Shinde takes you on a journey you didn't expect and puts you in a situation where you must analyze the way you treat women around you whether it's your mother/wife/daughter/sister who without any demand dedicate her whole life to us. At least what she deserves is love and respect in return.

This film is very realistic and so are its characters. Expressing emotions effortlessly even  without words has been the USP of Sridevi. She gives new heights to the character while maintaining its simplicity Songs are an important element of this film and are very energetic & melodic. They fit in the story perfectly and you enjoy every bit of it.

Sridevi in English Vinglish

I admire this film and the idea of such stories which in my opinion are a true example of women's empowerment and writer-director, Gauri keeps a realistic approach to this. She doesn't portray every male person in the story as a bad guy for this, as usually the films with women empowerment messages are nowadays.

This movie may make you emotional and may bring tears out of your eyes but ultimately it will make you happier and put a smile on your face. Every scene of this film leaves an impression on you. This film hits you so hard that it's nearly impossible for you to not admire it. It changes you as a person and actually improves you.

English Vinglish puts the most important issue in a very simplistic manner which increases its effectiveness multiple times. Even after so many years, this film is a must-watch. You can watch this film, again and again, still, you will find it fresh every time. So if you haven't watched this film yet please go watch it now. You can't miss this film at any cost. I would suggest you watch this film with your whole family.
