Must Watch Movies of the Decade (2010-2019)

Every year Hollywood produces more than 500 films. According to statista.com 7052 movies got released in the United States and Canada. To date, without adjusting for inflation, 46 movies have made $1 billion or more at the box office. 39 of them released in the last decade (2010-2019). Avengers: Endgame(2019) is the highest-grossing movie ever with total revenue $2,797,800,000. Joker (2019) is the first R-rated movie to ever cross the billion-dollar mark.
Here are my must-watch films of the decade. It's not possible to include all the movies I loved but have selected 30 movies which one can not miss at any cost.

30. Man of Steel (2013)

Zack Snyder reintroduced Superman to the world. Man of Steel's impressive story and remarkable performances make it the highest-grossing superman movie(solo). It laid the foundation of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Introducing Krypton's destruction gave us a better understanding of Superman's world. Henry Cavill as Superman is perfect. Choosing the film's title as Man of Steel instead of Superman was a clever choice.

29. Gifted (2017)

This is an ardent and affectional story of Frank Adler (Chris Evans) and his young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace). Frank's plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year old’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary. One must watch this movie for its family values and the powerful performance of Mckenna Grace. This movie a real tearjerker.

28. The Martian (2015)

Legendary director Ridley Scott once again created an excellent piece of art. The Martian is flamboyant and creative. Story's effectiveness and attachment to the main character makes this film phenomenal. The film provides a unique experience and satisfaction to the viewers. 

27. Ready Player One (2018)

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe. When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world.
Speilberg's  Ready Player One is a breathless action-packed ride through a virtual gaming world with lots of cultural references. The film is visually stunning and extraordinary.

26. Argo (2012)

Oscar® winner Argo is a true story based on the events that took place during the 1979–81 Iran hostage crisis. It follows CIA "exfiltration" operative, Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck), who sets out to rescue a group of American diplomats hiding out in Tehran, pretending to be a film location scouting crew.
Argo is mesmerizing, suspenseful and breathtaking. It is a hair-raiser and a real cliffhanger clubbed with top-class performances and excellent direction.

25. Toy Story 4 (2019)

Toy Story 4 is vivid, emotionally strong and inspirational. If you haven't seen any Toy Story movie yet then also you will enjoy this one. This movie is a must-watch for everyone doesn't matter to which age group you belong. This movie is a combo pack of fun and emotions, with lots of adventure.

24. Get Out (2017)

Get Out gives new dimensions to the horror genre. It is challenging and disturbing but at the same time, it is fun to watch. The movie came as a surprise for me and gives a unique movie-watching experience. There is no way you can guess the story. There are surprises at every turn in this movie. It's a must-watch horror movie of the decade.

23. Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)

Ralph Breaks the internet targets the online world we are living in. It shows both brighter as well as the dark side of the internet. It's like experiencing the online world not by using applications but by being a part of it. What if, Google or eBay were people like us. That's the experience this movie provide.
This movie is full of heart, imaginative, funny and emotional. It's a movie you should watch with your whole family.

22. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a combo pack of old fashioned conspiracy thrillers and superhero movies. It digs deeper into Steve Rogers' past.
It's fresh, full of twists and turns and never lets the viewer lose interest. Still one of the best MCU movie. One can definitely watch it multiple times and still, you will enjoy it.

21. Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

Strong performances, perfect story and a deep sense of humanity make Hacksaw Ridge one of the best war movies ever made. It's just spectacular and amazing. It gives an insight into how a Medic's life is in a war. One can't miss it at any cost.

20. World War Z (2013)

So many movies have shown the post-apocalyptic world full of zombies but yet World War Z is entertaining and thrilling. Unlike most zombie films that focus only on specific areas or cities, World War Z shows a global scaled zombie apocalypse. Despite survivalism being the driving force, the movie is effective and has its own merits.

19. Joker (2019)

Every DC fan wanted to see Joker's origin story on the big screen. The huge collection at the box office itself speaks on behalf of the movie. 
Joker is dark, disturbing but yet fun to watch. One must watch this movie for Joaquin Phoenix's marvelous and electrifying performance.


18. Predestination (2014)

Predestination is the best suspense thriller I've ever watched. It keeps you guessing till the end. It will blow your mind and gives you never before felt experience. Time travel was never that complex for me before this film. It's definitely a must-watch.

17. Searching (2018)

Searching is an investigative thriller movie. It's the story of a father whose daughter goes missing (possibly dead already).
Simpler the premise looks, complex the movie is. Most of the movie is presented using the screen of laptop and mobile showing popup messages, emails, videos, etc. The movie is technically strong and smart. Viewers easily get attached to the film because of its believable story-line.

16. Gone Girl (2014)

David Fincher's Gone Girl is a perfect and accurate adaptation of the crime novel of the same name. Acclaimed by both critics and audience Gone Girl is a masterpiece. Gone Girl is a family drama cum suspense thriller. Totally unpredictable twists & turns and top-notch performances make this a must-watch film. 

15. The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015)

A little bit slow but yet a must-watch.

14. Bridge of Spies (2015)

It's the second movie directed by Spielberg in our list. Bridge of Spies as the name suggests is a spy thriller, set during the cold war, dealing with the exchange of two spies between the US and Soviet Union in bifurcated Germany. It is flawless, engaging and entertaining. Tom Hanks is once again exceptional. The spy movie lovers are definitely going to love this film.

13. Logan (2017)

Wolverine is not new to superhero movie fans. After a long journey as Wolverine in X-men films and two solo Wolverine films, Hugh Jackman gave the best ever performance as the character. 
It's one of the best superhero movies and the most emotional one too. It's bloody, violent, powerful and entertaining. It's probably the best X-man movie after Days of Future Past.

The best trilogy of this decade. Set in a dystopian future where Apes are the rulers. Each movie has maintained an extremely strong and thoroughly compelling point of view throughout. All movies are visually rich, especially the War for the Planet of the Apes. It's CGI is a visual treat. The movie gets better with every part and none of them is even close to a disappointment.

11. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

The film shakes you hard and often. Christopher Nolan has delivered the magnificent, most appealing chapter in his Batman saga.

13 Hours is an adrenaline-pumping war movie based on real events. The movie is intense, heart-wrenching and present a thrilling story of courage and sacrifice.

9. Zootopia (2016)

Zootopia is a clever, fast-paced animated Disney film set in a world of clothed animals that live peacefully together (both predator and prey).
This is such a beautiful and extraordinary film. It's suspenseful and funny at the same time. Well developed characters and strong Story makes this film a must-watch. The message it wants to convey is a little bit a mature person thing. But it's really enjoyable.

8. Don't Breathe (2016)

Don't Breathe is such a tense and terrifying story of a home invasion. It's not easy to watch as the movie is violent and dark. But you are going to get a Jhon Carpenter level of suspense here. It's going to disturb you a little bit but still, it's extraordinary.
Stephen Lang's performance is so astonishing that you can't even differentiate whether it's going in for real or all this is just happening on screen. It's a well-engineered horror movie. Horror fans can't skip this movie at any cost.

7. Django Unchained (2012)

This is a brilliant and brutal revenge western. This is Tarantino’s most entertaining piece of moviemaking. Once again showing his excellence in film making. One of the most exquisite pleasures of the movie is the performances of its heavy cast. Django Unchained is another strong, electrifying and violent entry in the QT canon.

I have never seen a film like this. Everything happens in dreams but wait it's not that simple. There is a dream inside another dream. I can't describe this movie through words. It's amazing, sensational and innovative.

James Mangold's brilliant execution behind the camera and the depth in the character development makes this movie a masterpiece. Dialogues are fantastic and effective. Watching cars race on the big screen is a wonderful experience. Racing sequences are blasting. It's the best movie of 2019.

2. Interstellar (2014)

Interstellar is visually satisfying. It's not a mass entertainer due to its complexity but no doubt it's a masterpiece. Well, this is a Nolan film. One of the greatest and smartest movies of the decade. It makes you think a lot and you definitely need patience while watching it. Still, it is a must-watch film.

World War I tale, 1917 gives a unique cinematic experience. Director Sam Mendes without any hesitation shows the brutality of war by showing lots of mangled dead bodies. It's intense and hard to watch. Cinematography is breathtaking. 1917 is technically marvelous. It looks like it's shot entirely in one take because of its seamless editing.
